I got a hold of 8 huge planks just over 2" thick. This allowed me to cut the 1/4" tops off, rout out the innards similarly to the Slimlines, then glue the tops back on.
John does the same to the necks blanks, cut the fretboard off, rout for and install the truss rod, then glue the fretboard back on.
No maple veneer in the middle...just all rosewood
