Artisan Master
# 138
Body: 1-pc. Blonde Koa (no seams, no glue, just one chunk of koa goodness)
Neck: Curly Honduran Mahogany
Fretboard: Brazilian Rosewood
Pretty much everything else: The same piece of Blonde Koa as above.
Bridge: TonePros wraparound
Pickups: Wagner Valkyries w/ Koa Bobbins (N&B), Rio Halfbreed (M)
Inlay: Flowers-of-Life
Color: Natural
Weight: 7lbs. 7oz.
Initial Tone Report:
This will be a tough one. The 5-way switches between a variety of Humbucker and Middle
settings. The Tone is a Push/Pull which splits the Hums and allows for another 5 Strat or
Tele tone positions.
This totals 9 of the most useful tones you can imagine. The Valkyries alone easily cover
the smooth sustain in the neck all the way to the grit and grind in the bridge. Split them
and add in the middle and the bell-tone starts ringing.
The koa body is very similar to how an all mahogany body would sound. Very warm and
sustaining. The Wagners, as usual, will never mud-up so the chime and clarity is always
there.
Perfect harmony all around.
Visions and Vanity:
Koa gooooood. The chatoyance of this body in unreal. It has an inner glow that refracts
and reflects as you move the body around. The full-blown Artisan Master koa appointments
seem to complete the theme. It would be a shame to have any plastic on here.
The fretboard inlay consists of gold and hhite mother of pearl, green and red abalone
leaves, paua stems, and mastadon ivory thorns. A nice change from the more traditional
tree-of-life.
Dave, this has been a pleasure to build. As painful as it was to hand it over, I couldn't
have been happier handing it over to you.
I hope it inspires you every time you play it.
Enjoy my friend!!
