Tone:
I should mention the controls just to get an idea of what's what.
Master Volume
5-way blade - controls the WCRs.
Tone (Push/Pull) splits the hums in positions 1-4.
Blend - Pans between the hums in position #3 only.
Piezo Blend - Pans between the Piezo signal and the WCRs.
3-way mini toggle (Piezo / Piezo + WCRs / WCRs)

Versatility is an understatement. This guitar does it all. 9 swtich positions plus a blend covers a lot of turf. Couple that with a piezo and you will be kept busy for a long time.
The Darkbursts have the classic Wagner tone of clarity and articulation while still providing fullness. That is a good word to describe the general tone: Full. The semi-hollow body already adds a "wideness" to the tone and the pickups are an excellent accompaniment. The single coil brings the Strat tones in positions #2 and #4 for a little quack. The bridge has a smooth PAF tone without sounding thin or lacking body.
The piezo is a nice touch when you want to blend in a little shimmer, or bypass the WCRs completely for the unplugged tones.
Basically, this guitar sounds amazing in every position, I'm having a hard time determining which position I like best.:)

There is a lot going on with this guitar Dan. I truly hope it has matched your vision over the years. Thank you very much for your patience and your endless excitement and enthusiasm. You stayed positive throughout it all - that means a ton to me, thank you!

Enjoy,
Ron

Back Plate Inlay: The Old Guitarist ~ Picasso w/ elaboration.
Dan can share the representation of this inlay if he wishes. I proudly state that 99.99% of this was cut out by hand and fitted/assembled by my father. This is a good representation of the level of inlay expertise he has achieved. Needless to say, I am extremely proud of him and lucky he's not my competition.
My .01% contribution was the baby wrapped in the red blanked in the mermaid's arms. This was simply too small for ol' monkey paws. That's all I did.
Just look at this for size comparison:

The materials are:
The Old Guitarist - Dyed maple burl (shirt and pants), holly (skin), gray mother of pearl (hair). The guitar is koa fretboard, snakewood body & headcap. The pickups are sterling silver with maple rings. The bridge is brass with sterling silver studs to match the actual guitar's hardware. I almost cried laughing when he showed me the bridge...compare it to the size of the #2 screw head right next to it! :eek
The table is multiple pieces of macassar ebony. The vase and Lily are white and gray mother of pearl. The corner molding is sycamore. The window is mesquite and spalted maple. The sky is mexican turquoise and the falling leaf is malachite.
The mermaid picture features a ziricote frame, turquoise sky, chryscolla water, jasper rocks, paua tail, corian body and gold mother of pearl hair. The baby is red dyed maple and a little bit of rosewood.
I think that covers everything. About 100 hours went into that, I wonder how long Picasso spent on his. ;)
