Artisan Master  # 102

Steve's kickin' amboyna burl Master...now that is custom!

Body: Black Limba - Semi-hollow
Carve Top: Amboyna Burl
Neck & Fretboard: IRW
Pickups: Wagner Darkburst in gold w/ rosewood rings
Bridge: TonePros wraparound in gold
Purfling: Onyx
Firesuns: Orange Spiney / Onyx Dots w/ 14K Gold Outline
Sidedots and "T": Orange Spiney
TRC: Onyx + 14K Gold
Color: Natural

Initial Tone:
The 5-way is wired like a PRS Rotary so the middle 3 settings have a very cool variety of series/parallel tones ranging from Strat to Tele similarities. The neck is very full and the Tone is a push/pull which splits it to a sweet single coil. I love that position!

Steve, please give an official report when you can. Thanks for everything, play it proudly!

There are a few details in the above image that I just have to point out.
First off, the Firesuns are Orange Spiney with an Onyx inner dot surrounded by 14K Gold :hat
Next, the truss rod cover is Onxy with a 14K Gold "Thorn" :hat
Lastly, Steve wanted a "matching" Indian Rosewood fretboard and neck. I had a thick enough blank to allow me to cut the fretboard off the blank, rout for the truss rod then glue the fretboard back on. Check out the "seam"...it's practically seamless :b - That's a good match :D
Chances are I'll change the tuner buttons before it ships.

Made a few little changes to 102. Added Rosewood/Amboyna knobs and PU switch tip. Amboyna tuners.

Swapped out the 5-way for a 3-way switch. I just missed having both buckers full-on. It was wired like a PRS rotary. It was cool but I decided that even though I could get some cool tele like sounds, they were kinda anemic. Much better now. The push-pull now taps both PU's simultaneously. I like the arrangement much better. Ron questioned why I wired it like I did as if to say, hey dummy, what were you thinking...wouldn't it be much better another way. Yessiree! I hadn't owned a PRS in damn near a decade. I don't know why I wired that way. It was kind of a whim. The overwhelming number of my guitars have been dual humbuckers with a 3-way. Sometimes you gotta stick with what works for you.
